11 FEBRUARY 2010 SUSTAINABLE LIVING HOUSE OPEN TO PUBLIC THIS SATURDAY
The owner of the Alice Springs Sustainable Living House, Kristelle Sherwood is only using just over half the energy she produces via her rooftop solar system.
A public Open Day is being held at the house this Saturday so other homeowners can see how Kristelle is achieving such a great result, and to find out more about all the energy and water saving measures that are helping to keep her living costs down.
“Kristelle is on track to be a significant exporter of energy”, says Alice Solar City General Manager Brian Elmer.
“If homeowners are thinking of installing a rooftop solar system, there is no better time to come along to the house to find out more, especially with the impending release of the bulk purchase scheme facilitated by Alice Solar City.”
Kristelle’s total consumption since her system was installed in September 2009 is 1081 kilowatt hours (kWh).
Total production of energy so far from the 2kW system has been 1775 kWh, meaning she is using just 60% of what she is producing. The remainder is fed back to the Alice Springs electricity grid with Kristelle being paid to produce that electricity.
“If you are looking to make your house more sustainable, don’t pass up the opportunity to come and see, touch and feel over 18 energy and water saving measures”, says Brian Elmer.
Self-guided tours give visitors an insight to the latest energy and water saving technology including off the shelf products available to homeowners.
The Alice Springs Sustainable Living House is a joint initiative of Alice Solar City and desertSMART COOLmob.
The Sustainable Living House is at 68 Kurrajong Drive, Eastside and is open from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday 13 February.
