Air conditioning and insulation

A commercial air conditioner

Air conditioning accounts for a massive 50% to 60% of the average commercial electricity bill. And yet many business premises have little or no insulation to help keep the summer heat out and the winter warmth in.

Ceiling insulation alone can save 20% of air conditioning costs. For a 200 square metre area, your business could save up to $600 per annum.

With Alice Solar City’s financial incentives, the capital outlay would be under $3,000. If you shade or tint your sun-facing windows, paint your building’s roof white and fit proper seals to your doors you could make even bigger savings.

You should also pay careful attention to setpoint temperature you select - the rule of thumb is that for every degree lower in cooling mode, energy consumption increases by 5% to 10%. So choosing 24C instead of 22C could save 20% of your air-conditioning bill!
