Inefficient fridges and freezers get new lease of life for goodwill garden beds

Over 80 inefficient fridges and freezers have been removed from Alice Springs homes and the local landfill to become productive garden beds for disadvantaged people to grow their own food.

It is part of Alice Solar City’s bid to encourage homeowners to swap or surrender their old, inefficient or rarely used fridges with the help of a $100 voucher.

“We wanted to promote the safe disposal of these inefficient fridges and freezers, so our incentive includes covering the cost of removal and degassing. The incentive runs out on 30 September, so customers need to get in quick.”
