Australian Government 'Green Loans'

The Australian Government launched a Australia wide program in 2009 to assist Australian families to improve energy and water efficiency and install renewable energy systems in their homes. 

On the 19 February 2010, significant changes to the Green Loans Program were announced. The re-design of the program includes the discontinuation of the interest free loans component. The Green Loans Progam was to be replaced by the Green Start program from 1 January 2011, however, it has been decided that this Program will not go ahead and that the Green Loans Program will continue in its existing form until 28 February 2011.

As announced by the Government on 21 December 2010, the Green Loans Program closed at 5pm AEDST on Monday 28 February 2011.

Set out below is some important information relating to the closure of the Program:

  • All bookings for Home Sustainability Assessments ceased at 5pm AEDST on Friday 25 February 2011.
  • The Booking Centre closed at 5pm AEDST on Monday 28 February 2011.
  • All Home Sustainability Assessments were required to be completed on or by 28 February 2011.
  • Final claims for Green Loans – Green Rewards were required to be received by the Department by 28 February 2011.
