Decrease heat gain through your windows

An unshaded single glazed window allows 100% heat gain through the glass.  Without shading your cooler has to work harder to keep the inside temperature within comfortable limits during summer.  Think about installing adjustable shading or planting decidious vines or trees to help keep your house cool.
