Alice Solar City declared 2012 the Year of Energy Champions. As part of this celebration of the community’s achievements, we invited local businesses and organisations to make a commitment to reduce electricity consumption by 10% or more over a 12 month period.
All participating organisations that successfully reduced their consumption by 10% for the period April 2012 to March 2013 when compared to the previous year’s consumption went into the running to win an energy efficiency upgrade valued at $5000.
Easy Carwash was drawn by the Mayor Damien Ryan as the winner of the Commercial Energy Challenge at our 5th birthday celebration in the Andy McNeil room on Monday 11 March 2013. Congratulations to Andrew and his team.
Energy Challenge participants received advice and support throughout the Challenge period to ensure the best chance of meeting the energy reduction target. Access to our standard funding of up to 35% of the full implementation cost (GST ex) of energy efficiency measures was also available (subject to funding limits).
Participating organisationations had the option of displaying signage (supplied by Alice Solar City) at their business premises, declaring their involvement in the energy challenge, as well as a monthly status report showing how consumption is progressing. They are featured on our rotating list of energy challenge recipients on our home page.
The percentage reduction in electricity use for an organisation needed to be attributable to actions taken on energy efficiency, and could not in any part be attributable to generation provided by alternative energy systems such as PV solar, or by significant changes in operations or shut downs when compared to the prior year.
